Yoga For Men

While men predominately participate in sports such as football and golf there are men studying the art of yoga to use all of their muscles rather than just some,  yoga for men no longer holds the misperceptions that it has in the past, the consensus believing incorrectly that yoga was only practised by women. Others are practising yoga to find peace with their inner self and improve their whole being, while others are incorporating yoga with weight training to achieve a balance by using Asanas yoga to help loosen tight muscles and bring the body back into its natural alignment.

Asanas Yoga allows for flexibility and will help relax muscles, while Pranayama can improve responses from the nervous system and promote overall well health.

Practising yoga can also help overcome problems such as impotence and prostate conditions, arthritis and heart conditions and is therefore highly recommended for all men of all ages.

Practising can also help relieve stress and related conditions such as high blood pressure and depression. To take time out for 30 minutes to deep breathe, stretch and  meditate can bring inner relief and peace for many men.

It is also popular for men to practice yoga naked, but this is not compulsory or necessary. However, yoga for men who have never become in tune with their body or inner self this method can be rewarding and satisfying; as can Tantric yoga which can be practised with a partner and does not necessarily have to involve intercourse.

Yoga has a de-compacting effect on the body, which apart from gymnastics and swimming, is not found in other men’s sports; this is necessary  to counter the effects of running or jogging. Yoga also provides ‘symmetry relief’ after playing racket sports or golf which torque the spine in one direction only.

Yoga in its self is a flexible practice as there are many forms of yoga such as aerobic,  power yoga to the more meditative style of Kripalu yoga and hot yoga which is practised in a n overheated room any one of the forms of yoga for men can be incorporated into their fitness programme.
